The Problem
How might we design a mobile app that empowers people to learn new vocabulary?
The Goal
This application is meant to be used on the go for quick 5 to 10-minute study sessions. Students need a way to methodically categorize, reference, and study new vocabulary and concepts so they can move forward confidently when using a foreign language.

User Persona
After conducting a competitive analysis and user interviews with valuable insights I created my User Persona.
USER FLOWS
I developed user flows according to Mona’s needs and goals.
The three flows are:
- Creating Flash Cards
- Practising Flash Cards
- Setting Focus Mode

USABILITY TEST PLAN
With this lo-fi wifreframes ready I conducted a 15 minutes usability test with 4 participants. 2 of them tested the app remotely and 2 in person.
Scenario Tasks
1/ onboarding and sign up
you found a new vocabulary app and now you want to sign up
2/ create first card
now that you have signed up you want to create your first card
3/ log in
you got a new phone, you reinstalled the app and now want to log in
4/ start a quiz
you are on the bus and feel like starting a quick quiz
Testing Results
1/ major usability problem:
position of the „log in“ and „ok“ buttons
2/ major usability problem:
„new card“ and „new decks“ buttons are confusing
3/ usability catastrophe:
missing „forgot password“ link – you can’t log in
in case you forgot your password
4/ minor usability problem:
rearrange and recreate quiz modes
I evaluated the test results with Jakob Nielsen’s error severity rating scale and revised the wireframes accordingly.
